It’s not always easy to get into the career that’s just right for you. Kate Jackson went down the track of trying uni before she realised it was better for her to take up an Australian Apprenticeship.
‘I have always wanted to do hairdressing since grade 4 or 5,’ explains Kate. ‘I take pleasure in being able to change someone’s mood. They leave here feeling relaxed and better about themselves.
‘Hair dressing is such a diverse field. You get to do different things day by day like colours and cutting and training to keep learning different things and we get to dabble in other beauty therapies like tanning and waxing.
‘I used to get my hair done here at Style Inn so Marie knew I was keen. But I felt I was supposed to go to university to study nursing because of my high school marks. That lasted 2 weeks. I knew the first day that I should have done what I wanted to since I was young.
‘So Rozi Parisotto from the local MEGT Australian Apprenticeships Centre helped me sign up into my hairdressing apprenticeship at StyleInn and it has all sky rocketed from that. She sat me down and helped me fill out the paperwork and contract I needed to sign and explained it all to me. She makes the effort to come and see me rather than call me up and reassures me and makes sure everyone is happy with my progress and the way I have been taught.
‘I love Myrtleford. I feel blessed that I am able to do my job and stay in such a wonderful area.
‘I really think an Australian Apprenticeship is a great way to learn because you are hands-on and a lot of people might find it easier to learn that way. Especially if you are a creative person.’
